About the Research

We are researchers at KAIST RISE lab (Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology). Our team is focused on addressing AI-assisted cheating in online chess.

The Problem

Cheating with AI has increasingly disrupted fair play on popular online chess platforms such as Chess.com and Lichess, creating an uneven playing field and diminishing the experience for honest players.

Our Approach

We are creating an innovative dataset to detect AI-assisted cheating by collecting authentic gameplay data where players occasionally have access to AI suggestions, allowing us to study real cheating patterns.

The Goal

Our research aims to develop algorithms capable of accurately identifying subtle and partial uses of AI cheating, fostering a fair and transparent online chess environment for players worldwide.

Research Goals

Our research aims to address the growing challenge of AI-assisted cheating in online chess through innovative data collection and algorithm development.

Develop Detection Algorithms

Create advanced algorithms capable of accurately identifying subtle and partial uses of AI assistance during chess games.

Build Quality Dataset

Generate a comprehensive dataset of games with and without AI assistance to enable high-precision detection models.

Promote Fair Play

Contribute to fostering a fair and transparent online chess environment where players can compete on equal terms.

How to Participate

Join us in our research by playing chess and contributing to the development of AI cheating detection algorithms.

01

Play Chess

Simply play chess on our designated online server. No special skills required!

02

Optional AI Assistance

During games, you'll randomly have access to a special feature (temporary AI suggestions). It's completely optional to use.

03

Contribute to Research

Your participation helps us identify various cheating patterns and build high-performance AI detection models.

Data Usage and Contributor Credit

  • All collected game data will be fully anonymized and used exclusively for research purposes.
  • The created dataset will be publicly available, allowing researchers worldwide to develop and study advanced AI cheating detection methods.
  • Participants who significantly contribute to the dataset can choose to have their nicknames acknowledged in published research papers.

Join us to make online chess fairer and more enjoyable for everyone!
